  1. ESCORT P-47S TO VENLO
  2.  
  3. On January 31, 1944, the 38th Squadron of 
  4. the 55th Fighter Group was providing top 
  5. cover to P-47 Thunderbolts on a dive 
  6. bombing mission.  As they approached the 
  7. target area, the P-38s were bounced from 
  8. above by fifteen to twenty Bf 109s.  The 
  9. Lightning pilots countered the attack by 
  10. turning into the interceptors and climbing, 
  11. but the 109s zoomed back up to altitude.  
  12. Capt. Joseph Myers and his flight climbed 
  13. to 33,000 feet, but were unable to get 
  14. above the Germans.  When the P-38s 
  15. began their descent to rejoin their 
  16. squadron, the Bf 109s attacked again.  In 
  17. the ensuing dogfights, the Americans 
  18. downed at least two of the Luftwaffe 
  19. fighters.

  23. Your flight of three P-38Hs is flying top 
  24. cover for four P-47s fighter/bombers as 
  25. they approach Venlo Luftwaffe airfield.  
  26. Use your view keys to watch all around 
  27. your aircraft, and intercept any Luftwaffe 
  28. fighters before they can hit the P-47s.  
  29. Once the Thunderbolts have finished 
  30. their attacks on the airfield, help them get 
  31. home safely.
